PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ACTION FOR THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN ORPHANAGE - UGANDA
Blue Uganda's relationship with the Action for the Rights of Children (ARC) orphanage started in early 2008 when we were approached for assistance and sponsorship to improve the living conditions of over 75 orphans living in degraded shelters. The children have no family and survive only through the care of a woman who rescued them from the streets of Kampala.
Over and above the need for donations, which Blue has provided over the years, the orphanage faces two major challenges, namely: the safety of the orphanage in case of fire, and the blacklisting of ARC due to the disbanding of childcare facilities not meeting certain standards.
Blue recently helped by procuring fire extinguishers and mobilised the training department to conduct a session on fire fighting and emergency rescue. The company also involved the community in the area surrounding the orphanage. Secondly, Blue assisted ARC in finding new accommodation, meeting city authority standards, by paying for three month's rent. In so doing, the children are now protected from potentially being forced to return to a life on the streets.

FOOD AND CLOTHING DRIVE - BOTSWANA
Blue Botswana recently initiated a plan to collect second-hand clothing from employees, to hand to a family that was in need of basic social empowerment. This small gesture of kindness evolved into a initiative to help the greater community when the Tlhase family - a destitute family in Mochudi, 33km from Gaborone - was made known to Blue Botswana. The company made a generous donation of food and clothing to the family, and fostered hope in the greater community which had been ravaged by the invisible monster: AIDS.

ORPHANAGE DONATIONS - KENYA
Staff from Blue Kenya recently braved roads in a state of dire disrepair to visit the Brother Joseph's Children's home - an orphanage situated 30km from the town of Kisumu. The drive was quickly forgotten when the staff saw the shocking conditions the 20 young orphans were living in at the home.
Following the visit, Blue Kenya donated shoes, food supplies and essential toiletries to the home – a gift which was received with sincere gratitude.

CHILDREN'S HOSTEL PARTY - NAMIBIA
The Blue team in Namibia held an early Christmas party for the children of Vergenoeg Hostel, and employees provided a full meal, clothes and toys to all the children.
This was a first for these children, as they had never before received toys or new clothes. It was truly a remarkable day in which the whole management team and some staff members took part. Our lives have been enriched with the happiness and joy shown by these children as a direct result of our actions.
This heart-warming initiative will now form a regular part of our Turning Dreams Into Reality programme.
