FUTURE FOCUS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ™
Opening Up Opportunities
Helping Hope Return takes many forms. Central to our philosophy is the nurturing of young people while still at school to help them develop aspirations for their future, and to open up ways for them to create fulfilling lives.
By introducing young people to the wide range of opportunities in the workplace we help them to see their horizons of choice. Accordingly, for 10 years we have mounted an annual programme of bringing young people into the workplace to give them a personal experience of all the different types of work opportunities we offer.

Our programme for career development is called Future Focus For Young People, and takes the form of two initiatives, Our Work Day Experience and Our Work Aptitude.
Our Work Day Experience
Mayibuye staff, including managers and directors, commit time and effort every year to prepare a full day event called the Our Work Day Experience. The programme for the day starts off with informative presentations, then the young people who participate in the event spend time alongside our members of staff, gaining an intimate working knowledge of the spectrum of career opportunities available in all Mayibuye's departments and divisions.
We believe that helping adolescents to start getting in touch with the wide range of work opportunities in the marketplace may ignite the spark inside them that leads to choosing the right career and a lifetime of real fulfilment in their work. We are particularly delighted that it has brought returns into the ranks of our current staff complement, which now includes participants in the Our Work Day Experience programme from past years.
Our Work Aptitude
Most young people are confused or unsure about what sort of career to choose. We offer access to career aptitude testing by external professionals to provide guidelines to the young people participating in the Our Work Day Experience programme.
Who are the young people who attend?
Firstly there are the children in the homes and orphanages we support. When they reach their early teens, we bring them onto the Our Work-Day Experience programme and we arrange for them to go through the Our Work Aptitude initiative. Secondly, the children of our own staff are also invited and encouraged to participate in both these initiatives.
We are immensely proud of the work we do in helping young people to make a positive start in life, especially those in care in homes and orphanages who may otherwise be confused and overwhelmed by the world outside their doors. Our Future Focus For Young People plays a vital role in their career guidance and development.
